Getting Out Wasn’t Enough

A memoir by Michael Baker

If you know me through real estate, there are a few things we didn’t cover at the closing table.

Getting Out Wasn’t Enough by Michael Baker. Chicago street signs and a figure walking beyond an open gate.

My parents divorced, and I bounced between Chicago and the suburbs growing up. Somewhere along the way, I became very confident in making bad decisions. You’ll find a lot of examples of that in this book.

Getting Out Wasn’t Enough covers gang life, addiction, and prison, along with the people I loved, the ones I lost, and the years I spent building a life after getting out. Fatherhood, work, relationships, and eventually a real estate development business all became part of that story.

I tell it the way I talk, including the parts I probably should’ve kept to myself.

About Mike

I’m a father, a Chicago real estate developer, and the owner of 2nd City Developers. I renovate homes and provide options for sellers in a tight spot.

I still give my kids advice. Whether they keep asking after reading this is another question.
